Thailand International Banking Convention 2016

The Asian Banker gathered senior executives from retail banking, cards and payments, technology operations and data analytics, as well as chief risk officers and telecommunications professionals for the Thailand International Banking Convention 2016, to discuss transformational issues in Thailand’s retail banking industry that are strongly influenced by the latest developments in financial technology.

Our speakers included:

  • Paul Schulte, Author, “The Next Revolution in our Credit-Driven Economy: The Advent of Financial Technology”
  • Thakorn Piyapan, Head of Consumer Group, Head of Digital Banking & Innovation, Bank of Ayudhya
  • Boonson Jenchaimahakoon, SEVP, IT Technology Group, Government Savings Bank
  • Axel Winter, Global Head, Retail & Private Banking Architecture, Standard Chartered
  • Rana Peries, Director, Innovation & Digital, Barclays

Summarising our discussion:

  • Credit information and financial literacy would be key to success for financial inclusion.
  • Fintech is here in capital market. Sales trading and research will be gone in the next few years.
  • Banks are not designed to shrink without blowing up the bank. It leads to dissolved capital structure.
  • Fintech is about gluing, morphing financial elements of your life into a smartphone, but banks have difficulty doing that.
  • Customer wants control. Get the customer to join your workforce – fill their own forms. Think paperless processes end-to-end.
  • Innovation is the only way to win.

Held at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, Bangkok, Thailand on July 14, 2016.
